A multiple vehicle accident reportedly sent four men to the hospital when a semi-trailer truck crashed into another vehicle after allegedly failing to decelerate through a construction zone at midnight Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, in Clinton Co., Ind.

Reginald Banks, 41, of Chicago, Ill., was reportedly headed southbound on Interstate 65 approaching a construction site about 2 miles south of the Frankfort exit when his 2010 Freightliner hauling a trailer collided into a Dodge pick-up truck driven by Trent Richardson, 23, of Lebanon, Ind., who was at a complete stop because of construction.

The Indiana State Police reportedly said that Banks did not slow down and, therefore, triggered a chain of events. Richardson reportedly said that he noticed Banks was not decelerating and, accordingly, attempted to move into the median for safety. However, before he could, Banks allegedly made contact with the rear end of Richardson’s Dodge, which spun out of control.

Subsequently, Banks rear-ended a 2015 Peterbuilt semi-trailer truck hauling a trailer that was driven by Lewis Eggert Jr., 65, of North Liberty, Ind. Eggert was also at a complete stop because of construction. The impact of the collision sent Eggert’s truck and trailer into yet another semi-trailer truck. This fourth vehicle involved in the accident was reportedly driven by Andrew Nungester, 50, of Bargersville, Ind.

The four men were rushed to Witham Hospital, Lebanon, Ind., where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The accident reportedly resulted in a 3-hour closure of I-65 to gather wreckage and evacuate the victims. The vehicles driven by Banks and Richardson were completely destroyed. The other two vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Despite the severity and damage caused by the accident, no citations were issued. Police reportedly continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the collisions.
